Single people and newlyweds that are just starting out in life and have rented their first apartment start out their lives usually by the purchase of basic furniture for their daily living. That portion of the population usually has more things to spend their money on and have a lot of other distractions on their minds than shopping for high end furniture. Nevertheless the basic furniture for the kitchens and dining areas of these new birds does involve some sort of kitchen dinettes and chairs. The most popular being the three piece dinette set or the five piece dinette set, the former being more common than the latter.

Because these folks that are starting out new in life and do not have any children or young ones yet, most of them start out with a studio type apartment, because their space requirements are not so high. But then because studio apartments do not offer a huge living area, apartment dinette sets are designed with this limited space availability in mind. The round top table with two chairs is the most common apartment dinette set. The table top is usually pressed wood or formica top and serves the purpose fairly well and such apartment dinette sets can usually take on quite a bit of mechanical abuse.

Apartment dinette sets many times serve the dual purpose of a work table where the newly weds can take care of their financial obligations such as writing bills and making other payments on weekends. To this effect, the author has seen some small apartment dinette set tables designed with a small pullout drawer that can be used to store away check books, bills to be paid and such. Because such apartment dinette sets get purchased and usually people upgrade fairly quickly, they usually see a lot more transportation than other more expensive dinette sets found in more established homes. With the result that many of these apartment dinettes come with a metal edge to prevent damage by banging as they are transported several times and find new apartments to rest in.
